About Jared Ratzel

I’m a 2D animator, motion graphics artist, and fine artist based in Canandaigua, NY. I specialize in designing fantastical creatures and worlds, using a range of platforms and mediums to bring my artistic visions to life.

I grew up in a creative household in Wetzlar, Germany, and moved to the United States at the age of thirteen. I earned a Studio Art degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and went on to complete a Master’s in Film and Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Over the years, I’ve completed several short films and contributed to projects for organizations such as Nine Dots and the Childhood Cancer Society. Currently, I work at the REMADE Institute, where I create promotional social media videos using After Effects and Premiere Pro.

Imagination offers infinite possibilities to tell meaningful and whimsical stories. Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me, especially when I’m building fantasy worlds. Some of my favorite animated films—Spirited Away, The Little Mermaid, Whisper of the Heart, and The Wild Robot—fuel my passion for character animation and for sculpting rich, immersive backgrounds that help carry a captivating story.
